Environment and Climate

The protection of the climate and environment are key topics for the future of our company and for the long-term success of our business. As the housing industry market leader in Europe, we bear a significant responsibility and a duty to set an example. We view this as an opportunity to promote environmental and climate protection within our neighborhoods and across the industry as a whole. Climate protection in our real estate portfolio and sustainable construction and refurbishment is a particular area of focus for us. Additionally, we remain attentive to adapting to the impacts of climate change, preserving biodiversity, managing water resources, and advancing the circular economy.

Vonovia’s Climate Targets SBTi-approved

The Science-based Target initiative (SBTi) has validated our climate goals as science-based and aligned with the objectives of the Paris Climate Agreement

Climate Protection

Carbon intensity in our housing stock in Germany reduced from 33.0 kg to 31.7 kg CO2e/m²

PV Expansion

We have significantly increased the pace and capacity goal of our photovoltaics program

Primary Energy Demand of New Constructions

The average primary energy demand of our new constructions has been reduced to 25.3 kWh/sqm per year

Strategy for Sustainable Construction Developed

A sustainability strategy with 14 topic areas, broken down into specific requirements, has been developed

Environmental and Climate Protection of Great Significance

Targets set at the international level, such as the Paris Agreement and the European Union Green Deal, as well as those established at the national level, such as the German Federal Government's goal to achieve climate neutrality by 2045, hold high significance for Vonovia in this regard.
