  • 10 wind turbines supply environmentally friendly electricity for 10,000 households.
  • Tenants have access to green electricity.
  • Electricity supply contract for one year guarantees stable prices.
  • Germany's leading housing company is taking action along the climate path to climate neutrality.

Vonovia, Germany's leading housing com-pany, is making further progress towards achieving its climate protection targets and has signed an electricity supply agreement with RWE Supply & Trading for around 18 million kilowatt hours of green electricity. The Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) will initially run for one year. The electricity is generated by the Wust-Fischbeck onshore wind farm near Stendal. This makes Vonovia one of the first housing companies to con-clude a PPA for green electricity. This electricity will enable almost 10,000 households to purchase environmentally friendly electricity for a year at stable prices. The green electricity has been supplied since January 2024 and is generated from ten wind turbines.

“We are making progress on our climate path if we can purchase elec-tricity that is produced 100% from renewable energies. This step will enable us to save around 13,400 tons of CO2 per year. It underlines our ambition to be virtually climate-neutral by 2045,” says Arnd Fittkau, Member of the Management Board of Vonovia SE, emphasizing the bene-fits of the cooperation. “We also guarantee price stability for our tenants who opt for this green electricity,” explains Chief Rental Officer (CRO) Arnd Fittkau, highlighting a further advantage.

Ulf Kerstin, Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) of RWE Supply & Trading, also welcomes the cooperation: “We are delighted to be able to support Vonovia in its process of decarbonization, as our goal is to promote climate protection in all areas of the economy with our energy solutions.”

Vonovia already supplies many apartments with environmentally friendly heating from heat pumps, which are powered by electricity from rooftop photovoltaic systems in summer and, since January 2024, now also by green electricity from wind power. Alongside the installation of photovol-taic systems (PV) in existing buildings, the use of heat pumps is key to implementing Vonovia's climate path to climate neutrality by 2045.
